Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Policy

1. Policy Statement

The England Kabaddi Association (EKA) is committed to ensuring that kabaddi is a sport where everyone is treated fairly, with dignity and respect. We believe that equality, diversity and inclusion are fundamental to the success and integrity of our organisation and our sport.

EKA aims to create an inclusive environment where all individuals are valued and able to participate, regardless of background or personal characteristics.

 

2. Scope

This policy applies to all individuals involved in EKA activities, including:

  • Players and participants

  • Coaches, officials and referees

  • Volunteers and staff

  • Board members and committee members

  • Parents, carers and spectators at EKA events

The policy applies to all EKA-sanctioned activities, competitions, training sessions, meetings and events, both in the UK and overseas.

 

3. Legal Framework

EKA is committed to complying with all relevant UK legislation, including but not limited to:

  • The Equality Act 2010

  • The Human Rights Act 1998

This policy aligns with guidance from Sport England and other relevant sporting bodies.

 

4. Protected Characteristics

Under the Equality Act 2010, the following are protected characteristics:

  • Age

  • Disability

  • Gender reassignment

  • Marriage and civil partnership

  • Pregnancy and maternity

  • Race (including colour, nationality and ethnic or national origin)

  • Religion or belief

  • Sex

  • Sexual orientation

EKA will not tolerate discrimination, harassment or victimisation on the basis of any protected characteristic.

 

5. Our Commitments

EKA is committed to:

  • Providing equal opportunities for participation, development and progression in kabaddi

  • Creating a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment for all

  • Promoting respect, fairness and inclusion across all levels of the sport

  • Challenging and addressing discriminatory behaviour

  • Making reasonable adjustments to support individuals with disabilities

 

6. Discrimination, Harassment and Bullying

EKA has a zero-tolerance approach to:

  • Direct or indirect discrimination

  • Harassment, abuse or bullying

  • Hate speech or offensive language

  • Victimisation of individuals who raise concerns

Such behaviour may result in disciplinary action under EKA regulations.

 

7. Roles and Responsibilities

England Kabaddi Association will:

  • Promote equality, diversity and inclusion in all its activities

  • Ensure policies and procedures are fair and inclusive

  • Provide education and guidance on EDI matters

  • Take appropriate action where breaches occur

All Participants are expected to:

  • Treat others with dignity and respect

  • Behave in a way that supports inclusion

  • Challenge or report inappropriate behaviour

  • Comply with this policy and related codes of conduct

 

8. Reporting Concerns

Any individual who believes they have experienced or witnessed discrimination, harassment or exclusion is encouraged to report it.

Concerns can be raised:

  • Through an EKA official, coach or welfare officer

  • Via EKA’s formal complaints or disciplinary procedures

All reports will be taken seriously and handled sensitively and confidentially where possible.

 

9. Education and Awareness

EKA recognises the importance of education in promoting equality and inclusion. We will:

  • Support EDI training and awareness initiatives

  • Encourage inclusive leadership and best practice

  • Regularly review our approach to ensure improvement

 

10. Monitoring and Review

EKA will monitor the effectiveness of this policy and review it regularly to ensure it remains relevant, lawful and effective.

 

11. Acceptance

All individuals involved in EKA activities are expected to comply with this Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Policy.

Participation in EKA activities constitutes acceptance of this policy.
